Paradise on earth can be found at the Gondwana Game Reserve in South Africa. Gondwana is an 11,000 hectare nature reserve with a focus on conservation and repopulation of the area with animals that naturally had inhabiteded the region previously. They hold the distinction of being the only Fynbos reserve (a vegetation type designated as one of the Worlds 6 Plant Kingdoms) in the world with FREE roaming 'big five' game, (elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros) as well as endangered species like the Cape Mountain Zebra and the Black Rhinoceros. The scenery is stunning, with rolling green foothills and a mountain range as a back drop to the colourful Fynbos.
You can join the animals in these stunning surroundings by going on a game drive in a topless Landrover with your very own ranger, who will be a virtual encyclopedia of knowledge about the land, plants, history and of course, the animals. There are few experiences more breathtaking, than four - wheeling over a rise, and coming face to face with a herd of wild elephants having an early morning breakfast with the rising African sun gently shining on their lazily flapping ears. Watching a wild, endangered Black Rhino going about his day, alongside the vehicle is guaranteed to make your heart pound, as will the pride of lions as they contemplate inviting you for supper.
After all of this excitement, you will need a little pampering, no doubt. Allow your ranger to drive you back to the beautiful, traditional 'cape thatch' lodge, where after relaxing with a beverage and canapes in front of the fire, you can move to the intimate dining room. There, the international chefs have created a mouth watering array of dishes for you to feast on. Choose your accommodation in either round 'Khoi San' inspired huts or huge private 'bush villas' . These are the pinnacle of luxury; you will feel like royalty! For the ultimate in exclusivity, the villas can be privately staffed, with your own chef, butler and ranger at your beck and call!
Visitors can book day tours or stay however long they wish.
Love it so much you can't bear to leave? No problem! There are a few select home sites available. You can choose from land starting at approximately $175,000 Canadian for a 1 hectare lot, (about 2.5 acres) or a large, decorated and furnished home starting at a very reasonable $455,000 Canadian. As an investment, you can turn it over to their rental pool , should you not wish to stay year-round. There is ample undeveloped land surrounding each home and the sites take full advantage of the breathtaking views. And yes, the wildlife is just outside your door. This is as exclusive as a gated community gets!!

The Gondwana Game Resort is located a short 25 minutes drive from the George Airport, and the beautiful endless white sand South African beaches. The temperate climate is just perfect year round, never too hot or cold and is malaria and virtually mosquito free.

There are modern shopping malls, restaurants, and practically every chain store that you're accustomed to, as well as some truly unique shopping experiences. Pricing ranges from very reasonable to 'Wow that's cheap!' Most people speak English and a variety of other languages including Africaans and Xhosa.Gondwana has so much to offer with so many surprises we won't spoil it for you. The service is beyond incredible as is the experience itself. You will not be disappointed!

I had the privilege of being a guest of the Godwana Game Reserve recently to experince it first hand. I would like to offer our mutual gratitude to the gracious staff who looked after us during our visit. Dappehi manager and host Peter, our amazingly knowledgable and most incredible ranger, Cobus , with a knack for finding the elusive 'Black Rhino!' Chefs extraordinaire Simon and Nahad, sweet Virginia who would anticipate our every nedd, sometimes before we knew it ourselves. And the many others who helped with this once in a lifetime experience.
Thank you, Adrienne.
